Handmade Gifts for Your Sewing Friends
Admit it – if you like to sew, you love to make gifts. But so often we don’t think to make them for our sewing friends, because, well, they sew, too! Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or going on retreat, or just want to brighten someone’s day, here are some ideas from our OLFA designers that you won’t be able to resist. And you know the rule about gift making – one for you and one for me – so make two!
Sewing room delights
Colorful Tool Organizer Wall Quilt – Use scraps to match your friend’s décor and personalize it with their name or special word.
Precision Applique Scissors Pouch – Turn wool and embroidery floss into a pouch that will protect – and keep at hand - a pair of OLFA 5-Inch SCS-4 Precision Appliqué Scissors. Bonus points if you include the scissors!
Supply Pouch Mash-Up – Keep marking pens and other supplies in a zippered pouch. Tuck some treats in the pouch before you gift it!
Circle Cutter Earbud Case – What a great retreat gift! Your friend can listen to music without disturbing others in the work room. Great in the sleeping room when listening to videos (or drowning out nighttime sounds).
Top the table
Color Pop Table Runner – Pull out your OLFA CMP-3 Rotary Circle Cutter and CHN-1 Chenille/Textile Cutter to make an extra-long textured runner.
Scrappy Cottage Coasters – Here’s a project that is economical because it lets you pull fabric from your stash!
Easy Breezy Cotton Napkins – Fabric napkins are an alternative to paper ones and help set a pretty table. If your friend has a camper, make them in fabrics with an outdoor or regional theme.
Scrappy Heart Mug Rug – Show how much you love someone with this coaster made from random scraps. Include tea or coffee with your gift.
Modern Table Runner – With short-cut piecing methods, you’ll find this runner goes together quickly. Great for last minute gifting!
In the kitchen
Embellished Tea Towel – You can never have enough towels! Turn a purchased towel into a item every cook needs.
Last Minute Mug Rug – Just the right size for a glass while cooking or to hold a vase of flowers, here’s a mug rug that you can make when you need a small gift pronto. It fits into an envelope too for mailing!
Oven Mitt Trivet – Protection from burned fingers in the kitchen is important! This one doubles as a trivet, too.
Gathering Apron – If you have a friend who has a garden or fruit trees, the handy pockets in this apron will let them easily move from the garden to the kitchen.
Delightful home décor
Checkerboard Easter Garland – Not just for Easter, this garland can welcome Spring. It’s small enough to fit in an envelope, too!
Circle Pillow Cover – Here’s a chance to use the OLFA Circle Cutter, making this pillow so much quicker to cut and sew.
Quick and Fun Summer Bunting – Brighten a birthday or make someone’s backyard festive for a summer party. Your friend will love the variety of colors because you’re going to choose from your scrap basket!
Just for fun
Bunny Shaped Chocolate Box – Nothing says “you’re special” more than a box of candy treats – especially when they are in an adorable handmade box. It’s the extra touches that count.
Star Quilted Flower Pot Cozy – Dress up a boring pot of flowers with a cover that any quilter would love.
DIY Fabric Wallet – If you notice your friend is using a boring brown wallet, liven things up with a fabric one is bright and bold colors!
From a Leather Couch to a Leather Tray – No sewing machine required to make a pouch that can hold sewing accessories or jewelry. It’s made from recycled leather so you’re doing a good thing for the environment!
We had to tame down our list but there are a lot more projects for you to choose from on our blog, (https://olfa.com/blogs/) all by our OFLA designers. You might find the next gift that will be perfect for your sewing pal!
