You’ll also need:
*(1) 21in x 70in rectangle of quilt batting of your preference
Tools needed:
RM-CG-01/GRY 12”x18” Double-Sided Self-Healing Rotary Mat, Gray
45mm RTY-2/C Quick-Change Rotary Cutter
QR-6S 6 1/2" Square Frosted Acrylic Ruler
Cutting instructions:
C1 (for the four corners + sashing):
Cut (5) 1” x WOF strips;
Cut (4) 3 ½” squares;
*Sew all (5) 1” x WOF strips together on the 45-degree angle and press the seams open, and the whole strip flat.
C2 (red in the chart):
Cut (3) 3 ½” x WOF strips; sub-cut (30) 3 ½” squares.
Cut (5) 2 ½” x WOF strips;
*Sew all (5) 2 ½” x WOF strips on the 45-degree angle and press in half lengthwise for making the binding.
C3 (light yellow in the chart) and C4 (blue in the chart):
Cut (3) 3 ½” WOF strips; sub-cut (31) 3 ½” squares.
C5 (dark yellow in the chart):
Cut (3) 3 ½” x WOF strips; sub-cut (30) 3 ½” squares.
C6 (backing):
If you use 1yd of fabric, cut the fabric in half on the length (36”) and piece a long strip measuring 71 1/2” x half of the width of the fabric.
Piece the (21) rows according to the chart below.
To make this process easier, I recommend stacking the squares that forms the rows in order from bottom to top. Then sew the pairs of 1+2 / 3+4 / 5+6 squares of each row, then 1+2 and 3+4 of each row, and finally 1+2+3+4 and 5+6 of each row.
Press the rows’ seams to opposite sides and sew as you go, or press them all alternating the sides the seams are pressed to and stacking the rows in order before sewing them together.
After piecing the rows, and sewing them together the patchwork top is ready for the sashing to be sewn.
Sew the short sides of the sashing, press away from the patchwork.
Sew the long sides, and press in the same manner.
Baste, quilt and bind using the methods of your preference.
Congratulations! You’re all done. This runner is suitable for up to twin size beds, couch cover, table runner etc.
