(the total of squares from C10 – C14 is 168)

Considerations:

-          The batting square size is 1 inch smaller than the fabrics’ size, main and backing.

-          This pattern follows a random color/fabric grouping. Please check in the following steps to see the exact fabric placements, but you are free to place them as you prefer in any other random arrangement.

-          Randomly divide the backing fabrics (C 10 – C14) to pair with the main fabrics (C1 - C9).

After selecting each backing fabric to pair with each main fabric (make small stacks for a faster sewing flow), with the backing fabric wrong side up add (1) batting square on the center and (1) square of the main fabric with the wrong side touching the batting to make a sandwich.

Sew a crisscross to secure the layers together.

Repeat this process for all (168) sandwiches.

In the picture below is the pattern followed to make this quilt.

To sew the rows, lay each pair of squares with LINING side touching, so the ragged part will show on the front, and the finished side will show on the back.

Sew all rows individually, no pressing is needed.

To sew the rows together, lay the seams of each row to an opposite side, clipping before sewing.

For each row you sew together, snip the fabric edges far from the seams by 1/8in. Do NOT snip the first and last fabric edges of each row, as these will be snipped in the end after an entire seam across the full quilt rectangle is sewn to secure the edges.

Using either the OLFA 5-Inch SCS-1 Serrated-Edge Stainless Steel Scissors or 7-Inch SCS-2 Serrated-Edge Stainless Steel Scissors. These are strong scissors that will cut through all layers excluding the need of using rag quilt specific pair of scissors.

After sewing all (14) rows, sew around the entire quilt rectangle (53.5” x 62.5”) to secure the edges and prepare to snip the rows not done before to finish.

Snip all edges that are remaining, including the end edge of the entire quilt.

WASHING PROCCESS:

First, wash the quilt only with warm water and no laundry detergent in the “quick wash” cycle.

After the machine has ended its cycle, take the quilt out and shake it well. Add laundry detergent and wash again in the same “quick wash” cycle and warm water.

After washing, shake the quilt well again, and put in the dryer in the cycle of your preference, but make sure to set a timer for every 20min to clean the filter.

Congratulations! You’re all done.
