Make the blocks:
- This quilt is made using three (3) different blocks and it’s set in rows. There are (4) identical hourglass blocks, (8) identical half-square-triangles and (4) identical 4-patch blocks that forms this mini quilt/centerpiece project.
Block 1: HOURGLASS
- Lay (4) pairs of 5 1/2in squares of Color A and Color B, right sides together.
- Sew using 1/4in seam allowance on each opposite side.
- Cut the blocks once on the diagonal. Open and press to the darker color.
- With right sides together, align opposite colors and sew using 1/4in seam allowance.
- Press seams open and trim block to 6 1/2in square.
To trim, align the diagonal on a 6 1/2in square ruler or larger, to one of the diagonals on the block. Trim top and right, rotate the block, trim left and bottom. Repeat this process for all blocks.
Block 2: HALF-SQUARE-TRIANGLES
- With right sides together, lay (4) pairs of the 7in squares of Color C + Color A. Mark the back of each Color A diagonally using any pen or marking tool.
- Sew using 1/4in on each side of the mark/crease previously made. Cut on the creased line and press seams to the darker fabric.
Trim blocks to 6 1/2in square. To trim, align the diagonal on a 6 1/2in square ruler or larger, to the diagonal on the block. Trim top and right, rotate the block, trim left and bottom. Repeat this process for all (8) half-square-triangle blocks.
Block 3: 4-PATCH
- Follow the graphic below and make (4) identical blocks using 3 1/2in squares of Color D and Color E. No trimming is needed, press seams to the darker side. Each block measures 6 1/2in unfinished.
Assembling the blocks:
- Following the graphic below, piece all (4) rows. Attention to the rotation of the blocks to the right direction as shown.
- Sew the rows together (1+2+3+4).
Baste and quilt using your preferred method.
