Description: Easy piecing of tiny squares
Materials:
• Assorted Cotton Scraps min. Size 2”x2”
• Lightweight or Medium weight Fusible Interfacing
• Quilt Batting
• 1/3 yard cotton backing fabric
• Thread
Tools:
• OLFA RTY-2DX/Mag Ergo Rotary Cutter
• OLFA QR-6S 6 1/2” Square Frosted Acrylic Ruler
• OLFA 5-Inch SCS-4 Precision Appliqué Scissors
• OLFA RM-MG-01/GRY 24”x36" Double-Sided Self-Healing Rotary Mat
• Clips/Pins
• Sewing Machine
Key Moments:
(0:24) Cutting Squares
- Use 6 1/2” Square ruler and cut out 2” squares
- You’ll need around 100
(0:35) Cut base Interfacing
- Measure how tall your toilet roll is and add 2”
- Measure Circumference of your roll and multiply by 2
- Cut a piece of interfacing this size and a square 10”x10”
- Lay squares on top of these and iron to fuse (be sure to watch the piecing hack video below)
(1:10) Sew Columns
- Fold columns over and sew 1/4” from fold
- Repeat for All columns
(1:20) Sew Rows
- Use OLFA Appliqué scissors to snip seam allowance in between each row
- Fold over and sew rows with a 1/4” seam allowance
- Press
(1:37) Quilt
- Backing (wrong side up), batting and then top (right side up)
- Sew all 3 layers together as desired
(1:51) Assembly
- Trim rectangle to the size you calculated earlier
- Finish one long edge
- With right sides facing use a 1/2” seam allowance and sew the short edges
together
(2:10) Add Top
- Find Radius (circumference of tube divided by 6.28 + 0.25)
- Use OLFA Rotary Circle Cutter set to this radius to cut out top
- Attach to top with 1/4” seam allowance
Piecing Hack Key Moments:
(0:17) Cutting Squares
- Use 6 1/2” Square ruler and cut out 2” squares
(0:30) Lay out Squares
- With fusible side up lay the 2” square on the interfacing
- Iron to fuse
(0:36) Sew Columns
- Fold columns over and sew 1/4” from fold
- Repeat for All columns
(0:43) Sew Rows
- Use OLFA Appliqué scissors to snip seam allowance in between each row
- Fold over and sew rows with a 1/4” seam allowance
