I’ve been using OLFA tools since I started to quilt. It has been wonderful over the years to see the new tools and find great uses for them. Make sure you check out our giveaway at the bottom of the page and you can enter on Instagram @OLFA_Craft!
It’s thrilling to be asked to share my favorites tools for making Half Square Triangles. The Sparkler quilt on the cover of my newest book is the block I’ll share.
Tools:
OLFA RM-12S 12" Rotating, Self-Healing Cutting Mat
OLFA 45mm RTY-2C/NBL Quick-Change Rotary Cutter, Navy
OLFA QR-6S 6 1/2" Square Frosted Acrylic Ruler
OLFA QR-6x12 6" X 12" Frosted Acrylic Ruler
Following the pattern in my book cut out your pieces.
We are making two half square triangles at a time.
Draw a diagonal line on one fabric.
Sew a 1/4” on either side of that center line.
Use the 6.5” x 12.5” frosted ruler to cut on the drawn line.
Press open and take the 6.5” square frosted ruler and line up the diagonal on the seam of the block.
Trim 2 sides
Then rotate the mat
Trim the other 2 sides
You now have perfect Half Square Triangles with ease!
Enjoy making your Sparkler quilt and share it with me at my community ‘Quilt Along with Pat Sloan’ at Facebook.
