From fitness  to leisure and even fashion, the sports bra has become a constant piece in our wardrobe. Make a simple sports bra with me using Madalynne Intimates FREE Tonika Bralette Pattern

Tool & Supplies needed:

 ¾ yard main fabric

¾ yard lining fabric

5 yards FOE (fold over elastic) ⅜” wide

2 yards wide elastic 1” knit elastic cut the length of your under bust minus about 2 inches.

Cutting & Prep

 

  1. First, print, assemble and cut out your FREE pattern.

 

 

  1. Cut all the pieces out for the pattern using your Olfa cutting tools.

 

  1. For your Bra band cut one piece on fold at 3 ¾ “ by the length of your elastic band pattern piece.

 

Sewing Instructions

  1. With right sides facing pin front and back together at shoulders and side inseams matching raw edges.

  1. Stitch
  2. Repeat for bra lining.

 

  1. With wrong sides together, pin lining to main fabric at open edges.

 

  1. Baste stitch armholes and neckline.

 

  1. With wrong sides facing lay wrong side of FOE over raw edge, covering baste stitches and lined up with the neckline.

  1. Zig Zag stitch FOE to neckline close to the edge overlapping about ¾ “ at the end.
  2. Zig zag stitch the end closed.

  1. Trim seam. Fold the FOE elastic over to the front of bra, matching the edge with the back edge and encasing the seam.Pin.
  2. Zig zag stitch close to the outer edge of the fold over elastic.

  1. Repeat steps 9-13 for both armholes. ( you can also cut your FOE to size and stitch the end together before pinning it to the open edges. If you do this make sure you do not cut the elastic shorter than the opening or it will be too tight.)
  2. Baste stitch the lower edge of the sports bra.

  1. With right sides together, pin short ends of the elastic band together.

  1. Stitch

  1. Overlap the ends of the elastic by ½”. Pin.
  2. Zig zag stitch to secure ends.

  1. Mark the four middle points of the elastic with chalk or pin.

  1. Place the elastic sandwich in the middle of the elastic band matching the marked points with the two sides seams, middle front and middle back of elastic band.

  1. Fold elastic band over elastic covering elastic and matching raw edges.

  1. Fit the band to the raw edge of sports bra by stretching to fit, match the points to the sports bra. Pin in place.

  1. Stitch or serge band to bra stretching to fit.
  2. Turn seam up.

Voila Your Done!
