--------------------------------------
A circle skirt is a classic shape skirt that works well for most everyone. There are different size circle skirts based on volume, starting with quarter, half and full circle skirt. It can be made from different types of fabric giving a different vibe or look depending on your combination of fabric and volume. For a comfortable quarter circle knit circle skirt that you can dress up or down check out my quick and simple tutorial.
Tool & Supplies needed:
3 yrds Fabric (shorter if you want your skirt shorter)
1 ½ yards Knit Elastic (cut waist length minus 1”)
pins/clips
OLFA RM-MG-01 24" x 36" Green Double-Sided, Self-Healing Rotary Mat
OLFA 60mm RTY-3/DX Ergonomic Rotary Cutter
OLFA QR-1x12 1" x 12" Frosted Acrylic Ruler
Cutting & Prep
- Calculate waist radius: Take your waist measurement divide by 3.14. This will be the length of your waist measurement. (example: waist= 37 waist radius: 37 / 3.14 = 11.78)
- Fold your fabric in half lengthwise. Using your Olfa Ruler mark your waist measurement on the fabric with a slight dip in the waist. Measure the skirt to your desired length.
- Cut waist length across with a slight curve in the waist.
- Then cut lengthwise out into an angle creating a wider bottom hem as you cut closer to the hem.
- Cut two. This will be your front and back skirt.
- Cut four waist band pieces the width of your waist radius across and 5” long. Two of these pieces will be used for your lining.
