Welcome back to our Craft For Kids Series!
Autumn is just around the corner, and nothing better to celebrate it than making a seasonal themed craft! So today we are going to learn how to make these easy and cute pumpkin ornaments, entirely made out of paper!
So let’s start!
Tools & Supplies
- OLFA FCM-12x17 12" X 17" Folding Cutting Mat
- OLFA ESK-1 Beginner Craft Knife with Stand
- OLFA QR-6x12 6" X 12" Frosted Acrylic Ruler
- Toilet paper rolls
- Cardstock, letter size (fall themed colors for pumpkin, Kraft or brown for stems, and green for leaves)
- Double-sided adhesive tape, or hot glue
- Pencil & eraser
Instructions
Begin by measuring the toilet paper roll length. Then cut the cardstock to size, with OLFA ESK-1 Beginner Craft Knife, and wrap the toilet paper roll, so it will look nice through the strips of paper, as this will be the center of the ornament.
Then cut the pumpkin paper into strips. For a regular sized paper roll, I cut approximately 14 strips 3/4” x 8.5” long.
Break the paper fibers by rolling a pencil onto it, to make the stripes curvy, then apply adhesive tape on both edges, and start applying each strip to the paper roll as indicated below.
For the smaller pumpkin, I’ve cut about 1/3 off the toilet paper roll, then made a cut lengthwise with the Beginner Craft Knife (I opened the blade a little bit wider to help me get the right angle to cut it, but be careful to not brake the blade if doing so).
After that, twist the roll to make it smaller and glue the edges with adhesive tape. Then repeat the same process from the initial instructions. The only difference is that the strips are a bit smaller: 1/2” x 6” long.
Using the green cardstock, draw some leaves and cut each one with your Beginner Craft Knife. Then make at least two green strips for each pumpkin, curl them up with the help of a pencil, and glue it and the leaves together, attaching it already assembled to the top of the pumpkin.
I curled brown kraft paper into a roll to make the stems (gluing them on top of the ornament), but you can also use other materials like cinnamon sticks, wooden sticks or felt to make them.
And voilà!
The pumpkins are ready to decorate your room!
Please don’t forget to tag me @marciabel and @OLFA_craft on your finished projects, we would love to see your crafts!
Have an amazing & cozy fall!
