Alfie Mystery Quilt Along - Week 1
Scott Hansen
---------
Come join us in April as we share a Mystery Quilt Along with you this month. The finished product can be used as a wall-hanging or runner, but that is your only clue as to the outcome. Each of the remaining three Fridays in April, we will give you more steps to complete your project by the end of the month. This week is cutting out the parts and making some Half Square Triangle Units.
Scott started with 15 Fat Quarters from a Bundle of the fabric line, Alfie and one yard of Terrain, both from Windham Fabrics. Come join in the quilt along over at Instagram with the hashtag #OLFAalfiemysteryQAL. Make sure you follow us and @OLFA_Craft and Scott at @bluenickelstudios on Instagram for extra details throughout the quilt along (Scott will be picking prize winners throughout the month!) We hope to see you join our little ‘QAL’!

From Dark Print cut:
4 – 2.5” x 2.5 ” Square L
For the Flowers -
From one Print cut:
6 – 4.5” x 4.5” Square M
In 6 matched sets from other prints cut:
8 – 2.5” x 2.5” Square N
2 – 3” x 3” Square O
Sewing for this week’s Step is making many Half Square Triangle Units from the 60 – 3” x 3” Square K’s.
On the backside of 30 of the Square K draw a line from one corner to the other.
Taking one Square K with line on the backside and one Square K with no line,
Place them right sides together then
Sew a seam 1/4” from the line on both sides as shown.
Cut down the drawn line – now you have two Half Square Triangle units.
Press these seams open and trim these units to 2.5” x 2.5” Squares
Repeat this with the remaining 58 Square K’s, making a total of 60 Half Square Triangles.
Set all aside until next Friday when we will give you Step Two where you will use these Half Square Units and more of what you have cut up.
