Slice & Stitch Challenge – July 2020 Edition

Happy July! And welcome to the fourth edition of the 2020 Slice & Stitch Challenge.

For these challenges, we’ve partnered with our friends at Aurifil to bring six months of inspiration and project ideas to you. For each challenge, one OLFA Creator and one Aurifil Artisan will receive the same products to create a unique project or tip/tutorial to share. Additionally, Michael Miller Fabrics is supplying solids from their Cotton Couture line.

This month Kimberly Bucki and Michael Caputo each received:

  • Product: OLFA Scissors
  • Thread: Aurifil Color Builder Collection CAPRI (OLFA Creator) or TUSCANY (Aurifil Artisan)
  • Fabric: Cotton Couture Solids in Mist / Luna / Lagoon  to coordinate with CAPRI and Melon / Apricot / Lava to match TUSCANY

Let’s see what Kimberly was inspired to create:

This month’s Slice & Stitch theme is back to school, but in these trying times school hasn’t crossed many minds. With the color scheme I was provided, I wanted to create a project for families to do with their kids, called the lucky elephant. This can be a gift for a baby shower, or to carry around for extra luck!

My great-great grandmother has her house filled, top-to-bottom, with elephants of all shapes and sizes! She is my inspiration for this project and a huge reason why I love this magnificent animal.

Did you know, elephants never forget anything their entire life?

This elephant shape is inspired by a tiny elephant statue she gifted me when I was very little, and I’m so excited to share it with everyone.

This project takes no time at all to make and is very easy for beginner sewers!

With the gorgeous selection of Michael Miller fabrics, and matching Aurifil threads, I was able to combine these into the cutest little elephant family! Using OLFA scissors, you’ll get the cleanest cuts and it is very simple to cut around the curves.
