Shannon Fabrics is a fan of OLFA and has taken to using one of our Stainless Steel Snap-Off Graphics Knife (SAC-1) to cut their Luxe Cuddle fabrics. We asked Teresa Coates to work up a demo for us to share with you.
Felt tip or ballpoint pen
Luxe Cuddle fabrics are beautiful, but thanks to all the soft fibers on the front, it can be very messy to cut with a rotary cutter. Shannon Fabrics recommends using the OLFA Stainless Steel Snap-Off Graphics Knife (SAC-1) instead.
Step One: Draw all the lines you will need to cut; use a felt tip pen or ballpoint pen. If you are using dark fabrics, you can use white chalk or a silver felt tip pen.
Step Two: Keep pressure on the fabric at the beginning of the line with your non-dominant hand. This will ensure the fabric cuts rather than pulls as you drag the knife.
Step Three: Hold the knife at a close angle to the fabric and keeping tension, drag the knife along the line you drew. Cut 4 – 6 inches at a time, then move your hand to hold the tension closer to your next cut. Continue cutting a small section at a time until complete.
Step Four: Pull fabric apart and vacuum up any fibers that were cut. You can also use a wet washcloth to catch up all the strays and keep your board clean.
