Construction: ¼” seam allowance throughout
(A) 9-Patches
Sew the three 24” strips of fabric together, red on the outside with the pink strip in the center, making a 24” X 7 ¾” piece. Sub-cut 8 - 2 ¾” X 7 ¾” strips, which will make the outside rows of the 9-patches.
Sew the three 12” strips of fabric together, pink on the outside with the red strip in the center, making a 12” X 7 ¾” piece. Sub-cut 4 – 2 ¾” X 7 ¾” strips, which will make the inside rows of the 9-patches.
Sew the two outside and one inside row of each 9-patch together.
(B) Top of Hearts
Place one 2 ¼” white square to the upper left hand and upper right hand corner of the red rectangle.
Stitch a diagonal line from opposite corners of the white square. Repeat on opposite corner.
Cut ¼” from the stitching line cutting off the corner.
Repeat on pink top of heart rectangle.
Sew the red top of heart to a 9-patch, sew the white outside corner to the pink top of heart, then attach to the red top and 9-patch piece to complete one heart.
Repeat three more times to complete the 4 heart blocks.
(C) Sashings
Lay out the four heart blocks with points toward the center.
Sew two heart blocks to one of the 4 white print fabric strips.
Repeat with the other two heart blocks.
Sew the last two white print strips with the center block (D) in the middle.
Sew the double heart blocks to the strip with the center block.
(D) Borders
Attach the inside border.
Attach the outside border.
