Everyone seems to enjoy making new things for baby's room - and sometimes the quilts and decor chosen for the room are hard to match to store-bought crib sheets. Well, not to worry, a fitted crib sheet makes up so quickly, you'll want to make several. In a snap, you'll have sheets that match whatever theme you chose!

Cut cotton fabric to a rectangle, 44" x 69"
Cut elastic into 4 pieces - each 10" long
Using your square ruler - cut an 8" square from each corner of the sheet.
Take one point from your first corner, and match it with the second point.
Create a seam from the points to the inside corner of your cut-out, do this at each corner, creating your darts.
Hem all the way around the sheet, using a simple fold-over hem or with your serger.
Take one 10" strip of elastic, and securely pin the center of the strip to the first dart.
Stretch the elastic along the side of the sheet, and securely pin in place (you may want to use a quilter's safety pin to hold it). Repeat with other side of the elastic. Once the elastic is stitched down along it's full length, this will create your gathered corner.
Repeat on each corner.
Make up the bed and enjoy!
Want to make a complete project? A matching sheet or blanket would be a perfect way to complete the crib!
This pattern creates a fitted sheet for a standard crib mattress (27" x 52" x 8.5") - to adjust the measurement, add 2 times the depth of your mattress to both the width and length measurements.
